Well, after another great comeback in injury time, we find ourselves in an Ulster Club Final. We all have to agree that this group of players definitely don’t give up easily. They keep their heads up and keep going to the final whistle. They all give it 110 percent – what more could you ask for.
Sundays game was nerve wrecking to say the least, Orin Heaphey got the first score of the game in the 3rd minute and it was two minutes later before Eoghan Rua put one between the posts. Then, came a cracker of a goal from Conor McCarthy in the 6th putting us 3 ahead. Rory slotted one over the bar in the 15th minute – and we were up 4. This was short lived though, as Eoghan Rua came back strong and put one in the back of the net in the 16th. The lads kept their heads and another couple of great scores from Darren Hughes and Shane Carey kept us up by 3. Eoghan Rua kept battling on and it was a drawn game in the 26th minute. Kieran Hughes and Damien McArdle got a couple of great points but, Eoghan Rua got a goal in injury time to see them up by a point at the half time whistle. Shane Carey got the first score of the second half in the 3rd minute, but Eoghan Rua managed to slip another one in the back of the net in the 4th. This took us down by 3 and it was 6 minutes later in the 9th before Francis Maguire slotted one over. Kieran Hughes and Conor McCarthy got our next two scores and we were down by 2. Eoghan Rua managed another score or so and we were 3 points down in the 27th before Rory Beggan scored from a free. There was 5 minutes of inury time to be played and we were down by 2, when Ryan O’Toole came through and scored a beauty, quickly followed by Damien McArdle in the 33rd. It seemed like it was all over then, until Eoghan Rua conceded a free deep in injury time (35th minute) and Rory Beggan, keeping his composure, sailed it beautifully between the posts. Full Time Score: Scotstown 1:14, Eoghan Rua 2-10.
