A bust of scoring in the middle third of the first half was enough to put clear water between Corfuff & Scotstown in the ladies’ Junior Championship final. Corduff went on to win the game on a score line of 4-19 to 4-5. The game played in Aughnamullan as a curtain raiser to the Senior final was played in fine conditions on a good surface and provided much exciting football. The celebrations of the Corduff girls at the final whistle was enough to show how much their victory meant to the team from South Monaghan.
The game opened with 2 points from Corduff which were cancelled out by a goal from Sarah O’Connell on 4 minutes. Scotstown’s lead was short lived when Louise Byrne crashed her shot to the Scotstown net in the 10th minute. A blitz of 1-9 from Corduff was reward for their dominance in this period of the game, the goal coming from Elena McEnaney on 21 minutes. A goal from Laura Carey show that Scotstown were not going to leave the game without a fight. The teams traded points until a second Elana McEnaney goal (the teams third) was scored in first half injury time leaving the score Corduff 3-12 Scotstown 2-2 at the break.
The second half saw Scotstown take the game to Corduff. Emma Conlon added a 24-min goal to record Corduff fourth of the day, while Scotstown had goals scored by Sarah O’Connell, her second of the match, in the 18min and Ciara Kilpatrick in the 27th. A stronger second half display from Scotstown saw them match Coduff with a total of 10 points but the strong first half lead was enough to allow Corduff take the Junior Trophy home.
While the result didn’t go their way the team can be very proud of their performance and use it to build for the future. Well gone girls and keep building for the league.
