Presentation night
Well you would expect the Club PRO to write about how huge a success the event was but just saying that would not do the night justice. Where to begin, the food was simply superb, it was a pleasure to welcome the new county secretary to the club and congratulate him on the fine delivery of what he described as his “Maiden speech”. The honour of having the Mick Duffy Cup at a presentation night for the second year in a row along with the Kellett Cup for the Senior reserve league and being able to present 5 of our adult players “Player of the Year” awards was only the beginning. The night moved up to another level when Fear an Tí Seamus McElwain began talking to the first of the four Special Merit Award recipients Bennie Maguire, they talked about how Bennies long unassuming and effective involvement with the club has run over seven decades and ended with his positive thoughts on where the club is today. Next up was Matt McCrudden (the former Garda), they talked about the great influences former treasurer George McKenna(Patjemmie) had been on him and about football through the ‘60 in both Monaghan and Louth. Matt himself admitted to having the unenviable record of having lost 4 county finals in 5 years (three in Monaghan ‘64,’66 &’68 along with the Louth decider in ‘67.) Gene McGinnity next man in front of the mike let us know’ with out saying it directly’ just how much he appreciated and understood the commitment of every juvenile that he worked with over his years of coaching. For Gene the key theme is involvement of all, not just the elite. A strong club is built on administrators as well as players. The last man up was the irrepressible Sean Morgan, as he would say himself, a Knockatallon man that emigrated to Scotstown and put down roots. Sean as always put a smile on everybody’s face but when asked why he had given so much to the administration of the club, his answer was simply one word “Payback”. Its obvious that football success is the driving force in our club but last night proved that community is at the heart of our Football success. Huge, huge thanks to all who put the effort into organising the event and special word for thanks to Fear an Tí Seamus.
For the record Senior Men’s player of the Year was Kieran Hughes, Senior B Player Kevin McMeel, Junior Player of the Year Adrian Carbin and Joint ladies players of the year Ciara Kilpatrick & Emma McKenna

Boys Minors
The Boys had a tough assignment when they took on Erigal Ciaran on Sunday in Kilmore. It was a typical year opener with some lads showing that they had enjoyed their winter and others not so much. Management will have been happy with may individual performances but training and more challenges to that caliber will be needed to build the teamwork the the lads will need when the competitions get under way in 5 or 6 weeks. All round a good performance.
