Congratulations to the Scotstown GAA Ladies for their amazing recent fundraising initiative.
Scotstown Senior Ladies recently undertook a virtual 2,000km running challenge across the nation. As they passed through many towns and village across Ireland they were welcomed by many famous faces through well wish videos. Family members and friends throughout the country joined the girls as they went cross country for cancer. The challenge was a huge success and the senior ladies and management would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who got and supported their fundraising initiative. As it stands the ladies have raised just under €12,000 which will be warmly accepted by Breast Cancer Ireland and Crocus Monaghan, two charities that offer huge support to members of our community.

Muineachán le Gaeilge who are the local branch of Conradh na Gaeilge have put together a programme of online events along with Comhairle Contae Mhuineacháin and CLG Mhuineacháin. The link for this event can be found on the Muineachán le Gaeilge or Monaghan County Council facebook pages or on www.mlg.ie

In these current circumstances, it is important to remember that the community supports and services are still operating. Your GP is your first point of contact in relation to both physical and mental health needs. With Level 5 restrictions ongoing, physically visiting people is not allowed. But we can still make contact with those we care about and / or are cocooning, living alone or vulnerable. They would really appreciate a phone call, letter or card just to say "I'm thinking about you, keep safe and stay strong." So please, Phone a Ceili, write a Letter, send a Card and keep in touch over the winter months and we are always here to help in anyway. We ask all our committee members and players to phone a ceili twice a week. If you would like a committee member or player to phone you, please contact our Chairman Shane on 086 836 7997.

Return to training
The GAA’s return to play has been suspended indefinitely and to April at the earliest. This news has emerged after an emergency meeting recently, of the GAA’s Covid Advisory Group and on foot of a meeting earlier this week between the association, women’s Gaelic games organisations and Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers. The bodies were informed that under the revised ‘Living with Covid’ guidelines to be issued this week, elite Gaelic games will no longer be allowed under Level 5 restrictions.
Split season ratified at GAA Annual Congress
A proposal to split the GAA season between inter-county and club was ratified at GAA Annual Congress 2021 today. There was no opposition to Motion 12 which stipulated that the All-Ireland Inter-County Senior Finals will from 2022 be played on or before the 29th Sunday of the year. The exception would be where the first Sunday falls on January 1st, in which case the finals would be played on or before the 30th Sunday of the Year. In 2021, for example, the 29th Sunday of the year falls on July 18th. The successful motion has also given Central Council the power to make other arrangements “in exceptional circumstances.” So, for example, restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic might make it impossible to play the All-Ireland Football Final by the 29th Sunday of the Year, in which case alternative arrangements would have to be made.
