Latest Update - June 28th

Our gates opened on Wednesday, June 24th, and our adults have been out training. From Saturday 27th June our minors and juveniles can train at our facilities. Please keep mind the following;

1. The indoor buildings remain closed.

2. Please use the outdoor set of toilets

3. Only outdoor facilities can be used

4. Only people that are training are allowed on the pitch.

"GET IN, TRAIN, GET OUT!"

5. Please remember the 3 C's - Avoid Crowds, Avoid Closed Spaces, Avoid Close Contact

The following changes to the return to activity guidelines are being made after recommendations made by the Covid-19 Advisory Committee. These changes were subsequently endorsed by the GAA, the Camogie Association and the LGFA.

This week:

  • Open pitches for Adult training on Wednesday, June 24th.
  • Open for Minor and below from Saturday, June 27th.
  • Both of the above on a non-contact basis and on the understanding that players and all participants have completed the eLearning module and are following the control measures in place (health questionnaire etc).
  • On the basis of a maximum of 15 players in a designated area of the field (26 Counties) and 10 players in a designated area of the field (6 Counties).

Coaching numbers for underage teams to be consistent with Code of Behaviour. Recommendations were made by the Covid-19 Advisory Committee this morning.

From June 29th:

  • Allow contact training and challenge games for all from Monday, June 29th (26 Counties).
  • We await guidance from the NI Executive in relation to 6 Counties – non-contact training in the numbers outlined above in the interim.
  • We also await clarification on what will constitute a close contact versus a casual contact.
  • Restriction on participants only attending training sessions to be relaxed from June 29th – subject to government specified maximum of 200 people in the ground.
  • Allow Club Fixtures from Friday July 17th.
  • No change to inter-county dates (Sept 14th for training; competitions to start on Oct 17th as planned).
  • All control measures for players, coaches and other team personnel (completion of health questionnaire, eLearning education etc) is to remain in place until advised otherwise; dressing rooms to remain closed until July 20th

The Advisory Committee is considering the position in relation to other GAA buildings (such as Club bars that are serving food, Gyms, Handball alleys etc). 2023 Monaghan Club Football Championships 
The 2023 Men’s Monaghan Club Championships resumed last weekend with Round 4 and the Ladies Championship Semi Finals. 
Our Senior Men travelled to Donaghmoyne in the Greenfield Foods Championship Group 2 Round 4 game on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. This was the Senior blues third game in the championship. Well done to the Senior men in their 2-14 to 0-11 win and superb performance. The Blues started strongly and opened up a 4 point advantage with superb points by Shane Carey. Mattie Maguire, Micheal McCarville, Conor McCarthy. Ryan O’Toole, Jack McCarron and Darren Hughes (1 point each) making the score 0-7 to 0-3. Donaghmoyne reduced the margin to 2 points before an excellent point by Jason Carey made it 8 points to 5 going into injury time. Donaghmoyne scored another point and pressed on in injury before neat work by Jack McCarron at the forward corner gave Michael McCarville a clear goal opportunity but was brought down earning the Blues penalty. Jack McCarron placed the penalty perfectly into the left corner of the goal giving the Blues a 5 point advantage at half time with a score of Scotstown 1-08 Donaghmoyne 0-6. Scotstown maintained a 6 point advantage during the first 15 minutes of the second half with superb points by Ryan O’Toole, Darren Hughes and Rory Beggan making the scoreline 1-11 to 0-8. Then a superb pass by Jason Carey was brilliantly caught by James Hamill who fired the ball into the net giving the Blues the decisive winning goal. Further well placed points by Rory Beggan, Jack McCarron and James Hamill maintained Scotstown 9 point advantage and finished out the game winning 2-14 to 0-11. Well done to the team and management. They next play Clontibret in the final round robin game this Sunday 17th September at 5:00pm. Scotstown are guaranteed a quarter final place. 
Later that Saturday evening in Donaghmoyne the Senior Ladies played the current Ulster Senior Champions and All Ireland finalists Donaghmoyne ladies in the Semi Final of the Combi-Lift LGFA Senior Ladies Championship. The Scotstown ladies put in an excellent performance on a balmy warm evening and at half time were just 1 point behind at 0-7 to 0-6, all 6 points superbly scored by Éabha Sherry. Donaghmoyne started the second half strongly and opened up a 5 point lead before 3 brilliant points, 1 each from Éabha Sherry, Casey Treanor, and Hannah Sherlock kept the Blues within 4 points with 1 minute remaining of normal time. However a strong injury time play by Donaghmoyne secured them a final place in the Championship with a final score of Scotstown 0-9 Donaghmoyne 1-16. Hard luck and commiserations to the Scotstown Ladies, but well done on a brilliant performance and on making the Semi final of the Senior Ladies Division 1 Championship. 
Our Junior Men had a bye in Round 4 and were not playing last weekend. Our Junior Men next play Killeevan at home this Saturday 16th September in Round 5 of the Junior Championship at 5:30pm. 
The Fixture and results for the Men’s Championships are; In the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, our senior men drew Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Clontibret and Magheracloone and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Sunday 13th August away to Inniskeen (L 0-12 to 1-11); Sunday 27th August home to Magheracloone (W 4-19 to 0-11); Saturday 9th September away to Donaghmoyne (W 2-14 to 0-11); Sunday 17th September home to Clontibret at 5:00pm. 
In the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship, our Junior Men drew Tyholland, Killeevan, Oram and Rockcorry and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Friday 11th August away to Oram (W 1-9 to 2-5); Sunday 20th August home to Tyholland (L 0-10 1-12); Saturday 26th August away to Rockcorry (W 0-12 2-2); and Saturday 16th September home to Killeevan at 5:30pm. We wish the players and management on both teams all the best in this year’s Championships. 
Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week
Under 13s
Our Under 13 boys has no games in the past week. The U13 Scotstown B team are playing Magheracloone in the U13 Division 5 Cup competition final this Friday in Cloghan Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence at 7:00pm. We wish the team and management all the best in the final. 
Under 15s
Our Under 15 Scotstown B side played Inniskeen at home in Kilmore on a warm Saturday afternoon in the Semi Final of the U15 Division 5B Championship. Inniskeen started strongly and were leading by 6 points after 15 minutes. Scotstown responded well and reduced the deficit to 2 points going into half time with a score of Inniskeen 1-3 Scotstown 0-4. Scotstown started the second half with great intensity and found themselves 7 points ahead with 3 superb goals and 1 point after 7 minutes. The Blues maintained their lead throughout the second half with brilliant play and scores and won the game 6-11 to 1-5. Well done to the team and management and they play Killanny in the Final on the weekend of the 22nd September. We wish the team and management the very best in the final.  
Our Scotstown A team had no games in the past week. 
Under 17s
Our Under 17 Scotstown A team had no games in the past week. They next play St Tiarnach’s Patrick away this Saturday 16th September in Round 2 at 12:00 noon in Clones. The Scotstown B team were drawn to play Truagh Gaels at home in the Semi Final of the Under 17 Championship Division 4 and the game was played on Sunday last on a hot sunny late morning throw in. This was a tense exciting local derby with never more than 3 points between the sides throughout the game. The Blues had taken a 3 points to 1 lead after 12 minutes but within the next 10 minutes Truagh took a 0-4 to 0-3 point lead. Scotstown responded well and retook the lead through a well placed free and superb point but Truagh went in at half time a point ahead with quick points at the end of half time making the score Scotstown 0-5 Truagh 0-6. The second continued in the same as the 1st half, with both sides matching each other’s score with a scoreline of 0-9 all after 15 minutes. Truagh scored a goal giving them the edge going into the final quarter, but the Blues responded strongly and equalised within the next 6 minutes. The final 10 minutes were exciting with never more than a point between the sides and both sides taking the lead before a brilliant decisive winning point in injury by Scotstown secured the final place in the Division 4 Championship. Final Score Scotstown 0-16 Truagh 1-12. Well done to the team and management and all the best in the final. They play Monaghan Harps in the Final of the Under 17 Division 4 Championship which takes place this weekend. 
Junior Division 3B Reserves
Last Saturday evening our Division 3B Reserves faced Latton in the final of the Division 3B Reserve League in Sean McDermotts. The first half was challenging for the Blues and Latton ahd a commanding lead at half time of 3-6 to 0-5. Scotstown scored 5 superb points in that half, 3 from Nessan McCrudden and one each from Adrian Carbin and Jason Boylan. In the first 10 minutes the Blues went further behind with another goal from Latton and the score at 4-8 to 0-5. Scotstown put in a tremendous spirited comeback, reducing the deficit to just 5 points with just over 5 minutes to go after superb scores including a goal from Jason Boylan, a point from Jason Boylan and Sahil Arya with a score line of 4-8 to 2-9. However Latton, responded strongly in the final few minutes to secure the cup with 3 further points. Full time Scotstown 2-9 Latton 4-11. Hard luck and commiserations to the Reserve 3B team and management, but well done on making the League Cup final. Congratulations to Latton and many thanks to Sean McDermotts for superbly hosting the final as always.

Well done to our Under 18 girls in their win against Killanny at home in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 9 game on Thursday of last week. They next play Castleblayney at home in Kilmore in the Semi Final of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League this Sunday 17th September at 12:00pm.
Under 16 Girls
Well done to our Under 16 Scotstown B girls team in their 4-8 to 2-3 win against Sean McDermotts at home in the Quarter Final of the Under 16 Division 2 Championship on Tuesday of last week. They next play Truagh at home in the Semi Final of the Under 16 Division 2 Championship next Monday 18th September at 6:15pm. Our Under 16 Scotstown A team had no games in the past week. 2023 Gloria Memorial Tournament
Last weekend, Emyvale Ladies GFC hosted the 2023 Gloria Memorial Tournament, an event that commemorates their former player, and club member Gloria Corrigan in St Oliver Plunkett Park Emyvale. In total 160 U14 Girls representing clubs from Monaghan, Armagh, Tyrone, and Dublin with 16 teams participated. The tournament showcased some outstanding skills and an exceptional standard of football from all the young players involved. Well done and congratulations to our Under 14 girls team who played at the Gloria tournament The girls finished runners up and narrowly lost to O'Neill Shamrocks. Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €10,600!!

Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the autumn months and the football championships are currently running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others
Gaelic For Mothers & others continues every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in Kilmore. All welcome to come along. Great way to meet new ladies and catch up with a bit of fun. As there is no competition for the group there is no pressure to attend every week. You can join in at any stage and come when it suits you. You need to be over 25 and living in the parish. Why not come all and give it a go!! Coming up this Saturday 9th September party night in the Social Club! An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 03/12/2024 Ulster Minor Championship – Scotstown v Four Masters in Quarter Final this Sunday Scotstown play Four Masters in the quarter final of the Ulster Minor championship on Sunday 8th December in St. Paul’s GAC Belfast at 1:00pm. The nine county minor champions contest the St Pauls Tournament Ulster Minor Club Championship. Full draw; Preliminary: Mayobridge GAC (Down) (2-10) v (1-10) Kingscourt Stars (Cavan); Quarter Final 1: St. Brigid’s (Antrim) (2-10) v (1-16) O’Donovan Rossa (Derry); Quarter Final 2: Irvinestown (Fermanagh) (3-11) v (5-12) Clann Eireann (Armagh); Quarter Final 3: Scotstown GAA v Four Masters; Quarter Final 4: Cookstown Rocks (Tyrone) v Mayobridge. We wish our Minor Blues and Management the very best. Our Blues Upcoming Competitive Fixtures On Sunday 8th December our minor boys play Four Masters in the quarter final of the St. Pauls tournament Ulster Minor Championship at 1:00pm in St. Pauls Belfast. Scotstown GAA Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of Scotstown GAA took place on Friday last, November 29th in the Scotstown complex. Our Youth Officer, Tiarnan McGonnell gave an extensive report where he reflected on the continuous improvement of our underage and juvenile teams and players. This included increasing participation in the future blues and underage teams and training sessions with more blitzes and challenge matches with other clubs around the country. Tiarnan praised the boys and girls for their behaviour, work ethic and respect, with tremendous enthusiasm and appetite for future development and progression. Tiarnan thanked all those involved in another successful year from the coaches to parents to sponsors and everyone else. This year was another bumper year for trophies with league and championship cup wins across the U12s, U14s and U16s levels and we have a considerable number of players with bright futures ahead in minor and senior level. Next our Cultural Officer, Paddy Sherlock, reflected over another busy and successful year for the club in Cultural activities. Paddy praised and thanked the newly formed Cultural sub-committee and paid tribute to the late and great Bernie Sherry for all her outstanding work and contribution to cultural events in the past. The Scór Sinsir competitions were held in March and our club was well represented and performed brilliantly in various events narrowly missing first places. Paddy Sherlock secured the County win in recitation and narrowly missed out in qualifying for the Ulster Final. In June, Scotstown had excellent participation in the County finals of Scór na bPaisti (spraoi scor), with the Recitation and the dancers both claiming gold with several others a close 2nd and 3rd in their respective acts. Scotstown had further success in November with the Scór nan Óg County Finals with the quiz team winning the Monaghan final and securing a place in the All Ireland Final with a good run in Ulster. Paddy congratulated everyone involved. Paddy also thanked Pauline Rooney for her weekly Irish classes in the complex. Paddy thanked other club officials and everyone else in the club for their assistance including the communications and promotion of cultural events. Our Secretary, Gary McQuaid, detailed an extensive outline of the football review so far of 2024, with the adult and minor teams. This has been another successful and busy year for the adult teams. The Senior men won the Monaghan Senior Championship for the 23rd time after qualifying for 12 finals in a row, winning 9 of those. The senior men also won the Senior League Owen ward Cup, which was the 12th county double Scotstown have achieved. The Senior men reached the Ulster Semi final last weekend but unfortunately lost. Gary praised and thanked the team and management and thanked everyone involved in the backroom team. The Senior reserves made the O’Duffy cup championship and Division 1A League cup finals and won the league cup but lost the championship final narrowly. The Junior men made further progress this year qualifying for the Championship and league cup quarter finals recording impressive wins and narrow losses in their campaigns. This was the second year of having 2 junior reserve teams which worked well giving everyone competitive football. The Division 3B team won the Division 3B League Cup and all 3 of the reserve teams finished top of their respective groups. The minor boys had another successful year. With both the A and B team reaching the league cup and championship finals. The Scotstown A team won the County Division 1 Championship in Clones on the same day as the Seniors won the County final and this was the first double in 43 years. The Minors now play in Ulster and face Four Masters of Donegal in the Quarter final of the St Paul’s tournament in Belfast this Sunday at 1pm in St. Paul’s GAC. Gary thanked all the management team members and the players for a successful year and wished the minor team and management all the best in Ulster. The Senior Ladies advanced with their progression and continuous improvement this year. There are 230 girls now involved in playing for Scotstown GAA. The Senior ladies made steady progress in the Reserve League Division 1 and in the Senior League Division 1 the Ladies qualified for their first ever Senior county final, but lost to a strong Emyvale side. The Ladies have secured their senior status in the championship for next year. The minor girls had a successful year with winning the Division 1 league cup and narrowly losing the Division 1 Championship semi final. Gary congratulated the teams and managements on their continuous improvement and success during the year. Gary next focused on the facilities and the maintenance of our grounds. He thanked all the coaches and managers and the groundkeeping of Frank McKenna and the field committee for all working well together in the smooth running of 140 competitive games during the year, and to Sean McGovern for planning the schedule of training and home games on all the pitches. Gary thanked the PRO, Communications team and the live streaming team for keeping everyone informed of the games and general club and community related items. This included tweeting 140 games and 40 live streaming 40 games in 2024. Gary thanked the Health and Safety committee for all their work including the safeguarding courses. Gary paid tribute to the late and great Bernie Sherry and outlined some of the many outstanding achievements during the year including the progression of the Healthy Club where Scotstown is now aiming for the gold status. This was another busy year of community engagement and Healthy Club initiatives. This included the RTE Transformation walks which coincided with an invaluable Blood Pressure monitoring health check available for participants. Make a Ceili will be launched again this winter and Card playing has commenced in the Scotstown Complex. GAA for all initiative has continued this year as well. Earlier in the year women’s health, and alcohol and drugs awareness talks took place along with How are you? Metal health awareness in May. Cardiac screening happened and the ladies recently planted the daffodils in Kilmore for next year’s March Daffodil day. GAA 4 Mothers and Others is going strong and the club achieved the Silver Healthy Club status during the year. Gary thanked the development committee in all the progress and positive outcomes during the year including the official opening of the Kilmore hub and the installation of the new excellent floodlights at Kilmore. Gary also referred to various initiatives and fundraisers during the year such as the Cul Camps, table quizzes, medal presentations, clothes collections, Big Breakfast, Scór activities and many other initiatives and events. Gary thanked all the volunteers, stewards, shop and all those activities that are smoothly run all year, and our referees. Next, our Treasurer, Aine McKenna discussed the Financial Statements and a review of the 2023 / 2024 financial year. This year was another busy year for the club as the Kilmore development continued with significant completions, and there has been a considerable level of funding required for the entire project. The day to day running of the club has been continually supported by the Ciste, Lotto, match receipts and our sponsors, while the capital investment for the year and future is supported by the Cairde na Botha and grant income, and the recent Leave your Mark fundraiser. Aine praised all those involved in raising the funds for the club as this is crucial in continuing the success of the club for future generations. Next was our Chairman Cyril McCrudden’s address. Cyril praised all our club members, players and volunteers for their hard work during the past year and congratulated them all on their successes so far. Cyril thanked all the new 2024 sub-committees, and the stewards, ground staff, Ciste, Leave your Mark and lotto groups, Cairde and the fundraising committees, the bar and social club staff, hospitality and food providers, the club shop and tuck shop, the cleaners, those who put up the bunting, the coaches, team managers, referees, and everyone else behind the scenes that make the club work so well and efficiently. Cyril thanked and praised all the teams and managements and all those involved in the parish and community that make the club work so well both on and off the field. Echoing the previous speakers Cyril praised and thanked the coaching team and officer Marc Mullen for all the successes and progression this year, and thanked families and parents of players. Cyril also thanked the cultural officer, PRO and communications committee, Field committee, development committee, Finance and fundraising committee and treasurer, secretary, cultural officer and committee, referees, development officer and committee, green committee, social club and all the events, the Kilmore hub and the work of Gareth Sherry there, and many more involved including members and supporters. Cyril paid tribute to the late and great Bernie Sherry and all the health and well being work and thanked our Main Sponsors, McMahons Centra Scotstown and other sponsors including Maguire Transport and Greenfield Foods, and all those who support the various fundraisers. Cyril outlined the future developments in Kilmore including the car park and the Astro pitch and looked forward to another successful year in 2025 both on and off the pitch. During May we had the Hello How are you? Campaign and in August, a community event after the Blessing of the Graves. In November we had daffodil planting in Kilmore and last weekend we had the return of the card nights for the winter. Card Playing night this Friday Scotstown GAA are inviting everyone to come along and play Cards in the Scotstown complex this Friday 6th December at 8 O’ Clock especially young people who want to learn the game of 45, there will be card players there on the night to guide and help, fun night ahead don’t let our traditional card games become a thing of the past. It wasn't our night and commiserations and hard luck to the team and management, but well done and thanks for all the hard work, dedication, success and joy you brought to the parish this year which saw the retention of the County Championship along with the senior league cup double and getting to Ulster Senior Championship Semi final. Our senior men will be back next year even hungrier for more success and we have our minors to look forward to in just over a week’s time in the St. Paul's Tournament Ulster Minor Championship and we wish the minor team and management all the best.
