All Ireland Senior Football – Galway 0-14 Monaghan 0-11
On Saturday last the Monaghan Seniors travelled to Pearse stadium for an away All Ireland Championship preliminary quarter final encounter with Galway. Galway had fielded a strong side but in first half Monaghan but in a brilliant performance and where unfortunate not to be in front at half time with the scoreline of Galway leading 0-6 to 0-5. Monaghan almost took the lead in the second half when Barry McBennett fired a brilliant goal attempt which unfortunately hit the under side of cross bar. Monaghan continued to apply good pressure but Galway held their nerve and held on to their advantage with a final score of 0-14 to 0-11. Hard luck to the team, which included Rory, Ryan, Conor, Jack, and Micheal and the management, but well done on the great encouraging performance, and well done to Jack (0-3, 2 from frees) and Conor (0-1) for their fine points.
