The following changes to the return to activity guidelines are being made after recommendations made by the Covid-19 Advisory Committee. These changes were subsequently endorsed by the GAA, the Camogie Association and the LGFA.

This week:

  • Open pitches for Adult training on Wednesday, June 24th.
  • Open for Minor and below from Saturday, June 27th.
  • Both of the above on a non-contact basis and on the understanding that players and all participants have completed the eLearning module and are following the control measures in place (health questionnaire etc).
  • On the basis of a maximum of 15 players in a designated area of the field (26 Counties) and 10 players in a designated area of the field (6 Counties).

Coaching numbers for underage teams to be consistent with Code of Behaviour. Recommendations were made by the Covid-19 Advisory Committee this morning.

From June 29th:

  • Allow contact training and challenge games for all from Monday, June 29th (26 Counties).
  • We await guidance from the NI Executive in relation to 6 Counties – non-contact training in the numbers outlined above in the interim.
  • We also await clarification on what will constitute a close contact versus a casual contact.
  • Restriction on participants only attending training sessions to be relaxed from June 29th – subject to government specified maximum of 200 people in the ground.
  • Allow Club Fixtures from Friday July 17th.
  • No change to inter-county dates (Sept 14th for training; competitions to start on Oct 17th as planned).
  • All control measures for players, coaches and other team personnel (completion of health questionnaire, eLearning education etc) is to remain in place until advised otherwise; dressing rooms to remain closed until July 20th

The Advisory Committee is considering the position in relation to other GAA buildings (such as Club bars that are serving food, Gyms, Handball alleys etc). Guidance will be provided in this context before June 29th.New ParagraphNew ParagraphThe GAA has produced a Club Education Webinar which can be accessed https://www.gaa.ie/gaa-now/covid-club-education-webinar/New Paragraph

Scotstown GAA Club Notes 27/06/2023

An Bhoth GAA Club Notes. 27/06/2023
Double Monaghan success in Tullamore!
All Ireland Senior County Football Championship Preliminary Quarter Final Result Monaghan 1-11 Kildare 0-13
All Ireland Minor County Football Championship Semi Final Result Monaghan 1-11 Kerry 0-11
What a day in Tullamore last Saturday as both Monaghan Senior and Minor teams pulled a remarkable feat and set themselves up in the latter stages of the All Ireland knockout stages with the Minors in the first All Ireland final to feature a Monaghan team since 1939 when Roscommon beat Monaghan in the All Ireland Minor final. The Monaghan Senior team secured a place in the All Ireland Quarter Final when Man of the Match, Conor McCarthy scored a superb calm and collected last gasp match-winner as the Farney men dug deep yet again to dramatically progress in the competition. Monaghan spent much of the game behind Kildare, despite starting strongly and taking the lead to a brilliant Conor McCarthy goal, were behind by three points with half an hour or so remaining and looked in real danger of crashing out of the Championship. But Monaghan outscored Kildare by 0-6 to 0-2 from there, firstly drawing level and then pinching a famous win with Conor McCarthy's 75th minute brilliant point. Well done to all our Blues who played, Rory Beggan, Shane Carey, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Jack McCarron, Conor McCarthy and Ryan O’Toole, with superb scores totalling 1-7 from Conor McCarthy (1-2); Jack McCarron (0-3, 1 from free); Rory Beggan (0-1f) and Darren Hughes (0-1m), and to the team and management. Monaghan have been drawn against Armagh for the All Ireland Quarter Final and it takes place this Saturday 1st July at 6:00pm in Croke Park. We wish all our Blues, the team and manager Vinnie Corey and his management team the very best.
Earlier that day in Tullamore the Monaghan Minors faced Kerry in the All Ireland Minor Championship Semi Final. The Monaghan minors played an amazing performance to secure a place in the final. The first half was a tight affair with Kerry leading be 2 points going into injury time, but an excellent, well placed 45 from Tommy Mallen resulted in an own goal to give Monaghan a 1 point advantage at half time with a score of 1-5 to 0-7. Monaghan remained in the lead throughout the second half with superb defending and 6 further points, 3 of which from Man of the Match Seán Óg McElwain. Seán held his nerve to score Monaghan’s 2 final points at the end. Well done to all our Blues who played Donnchadh Connolly, Sean Óg McElwain, Max Maguire, and Tommy Mallen with brilliant scores from Seán Óg McElwain (0-4, 2 from free, 1 from mark) and Tommy Mallen (1-1), and to the team and management. Monaghan have booked themselves in the All Ireland Minor Championship final and will play Derry in the Athletics Ground, Armagh on Sunday 9th July at 1:00pm. We wish all our Blues, the team and management the very best in the final.

Our dancers, Leah Treanor, Nicole Bennett, Ellie Meehan, Nadine McCarra, Catherine Meehan Abi Corrigan, Joshua Mullen and Peter Mc Carra claimed gold with Gael Triucha in second and Killeevan third. The same eight dancers also won the Set dancing.
In instrumental music, our team of Mia Cusack Anne Keyes, Ellie Coney Abi Corrigan and Rachel O'connor had to be content with third place, despite giving an excellent performance, with Monaghan Harps first and Sean McDermotts second.
In Recitation Emma McKenna was an energy saving star and claimed first place with an exceptional performance of diction and action. The poem, written by Alice Daly called "The three wee Pigs" cleverly told how one could save energy and save money while building their house. Nial O'connor Clare Daly and Teresa Mohan. Also to the parents for their efforts and loyalty to the promotion of Scor and Culture in our club. Thanks to Scotstown Comhaltas Craobh Éamonn Ó’Muirí for the report below and Laura Treanor from Lavery Photos & Video for the photos on Social media. As Mackie Rooney launched his book, a huge crowd gathered to celebrate this special occasion. Mackie shared some of the captivating stories behind his work, keeping the audience entertained throughout. The night was further enhanced by live music from his amazingly talented children and grandchildren, and our brilliant MC, Seamus McElwain, ensured everything ran smoothly. A huge thanks to Scotstown GAA for the wonderful facilities, and a big thank you to everyone who helped make the night such a success. We are all so proud of you, Mackie - a wonderful occasion for you, Pauline, and all your family! Comhghairdeas, Mackie. A Sliabh Beagh and North-Monaghan Miscellany abounds in folklore which was quite common to an Ireland of former times-a belief in fairies, ghosts, banshees, and superstitions of a malign nature. However, the author has tossed in so many humorous pieces that we can feel assured that he, at least, is not in thrall, to this past, while yet shining a light on the lives of our ancestors. An excellent read and very good value at €40-£35. Outlets for A Sliabh and North-Monaghan Miscellany following the launch: McMahons’ Centra; Martin the Butcher; The Pharmacy; Henry’s Bar;McCarvill’s, Killylough; The Village Shop, Ballinode; McAloon’s, Knockatallon; Emyvale Post Office; Luke Orru, Dunmoran N2; McAnenley Fuels Moy Bridge; Rock’s Stationary Park Street Monaghan; The Braeside Stores, Clonstibret; Katie’s Main St. Castleblayney; McAleers, Eshnadarra P.O.
