Scotstown GAA Club Notes. 31/03/2020
We are here to help
We would like to reiterate our message that we are here to help. In light of the
ongoing concerns and impacts to our daily lives over Covid-19, Scotstown GAA
would like to reassure those in our community that we are here to help. The health
and wellbeing of our community is very important at this time and we can phone and
have a chat with those that are alone or vulnerable check if they need anything,
groceries, medicines, a friendly voice and reassuring chat can help.
If you are living away from the parish and have relatives that may need a hand
getting in medicines or shopping or simply checking in with them, contact Cormac on
087 6504979 or Bernie on 086 8161700 or any committee member. Please private
message on the Scotstown GAA Facebook page with any other suggestions on how
we can help over the next while. We will keep you updated on our Facebook page
and we are and will look out for each other.
Please follow the HSE and World Health Organisation guidelines which will be
frequently posted. We would also like to praise and thank the front-line staff in the
services during this time and all the goodwill that is happening in our community.
Stay safe.
Covid-19 Cancellations
In line with the extended GAA, and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association decision,
all activities at club, inter-county and educational levels until at least April 19th. This
is to include all games, training and team gatherings at all ages and all grades. This
also includes all our Scor activities, our Club shop, Social Club, Ciste and the
walking track in Kilmore. We will keep you updated here and through Social Media.
We are all on the same team, the (stay at) home team. Remember to wash your
hands, adhere to social distancing and follow all HSE guidelines. Thank you.
Phone your Céili.
An appropriate version in these times for our Making Your Céili initiative is “Phone
your Céili”. We ask that all in the club to be conscious of all the venerable and
vulnerable people in our parish and not to assume that someone else will think of
them. Please check in on people over the phone, but please be mindful that you
cannot visit people until the restrictions are lifted. Check with people if they are
aware of their Eircodes which are crucial in these times. We have posted instructions
on how to do this on the Scotstown Facebook page and our website.
Mass online in Tydavnet Parish
Mass will feature every Sunday 11:30am live on Facebook during the current
restrictions on social gatherings. You can find it on the Facebook page “Tydavnet
Parish RC Churches” and we are sharing it on our own Scotstown GAA page. Well
done and thanks to everyone involved.
St Patrick’s Day Competition
We have a winner of our St Patrick's art competition! All of the entries are wonderful,
thank you very much. Congratulations to our winner Ethan Sherry, with a lovely,
bright and colourful picture. Sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face! Thanks to all
those involved in this competition.
Leaflets on crucial local numbers
There are Tydavnet Parish Community Health and Wellbeing leaflet of crucial local
numbers and contact information for people in our community. These leaflets are
going out through the local shops, churches etc. Many thanks to all those involved.
Scotstown GAA Social Media
Please check in on our Scotstown GAA Facebook page for updates and information.
During these times social media is an invaluable means of staying connected and
feeling engaged with the club and for all our community. We will also be posting
items on our Twitter account and Clubforce platform.
Kilmore walking track closed.
As we have been instructed to close all our facilities completely until at least April
19 th , the Kilmore Walking track is closed. We are devastated as a club and
community to have to make this decision and that we hope and pray that it will be for
the shortest possible period. We urge motorists to take extra care on the roads to be
mindful of the probable increase of pedestrian usage. We also encourage our
walkers to heed the advice of good walking on the road practice.
Thank you to the Healthcare workers.
We would like to express gratitude and thanks to all the healthcare workers who are
fighting this pandemic. We also thank all the people involved in the essential goods
and services that are keeping us safe, connected and fed, and everyone for their
patience in abiding to the guidelines on social distancing, handwashing and staying
at home. Stay safe.
