We say goodbye to Tommy
It is with a heavy heart and our sincerest sympathies that we observe the passing of our former player, committee member, trustee and honorary club member Tommy Moyna. Tommy was considerably instrumental in the shape and successes of our Club as we know it today. Tommy along with his twin brother Mackie (R.I.P., pictured on the left below, Tommy on the right) began playing for the former senior Scotstown village team in 1945 and was influential as a key player during the current club’s formation from the 1950s, where we won our first senior county championships in 1960 and 1961, and was also actively involved in the purchase and development of Páirc Mhuire in Scotstown in 1954. Tommy was exceptionally involved in our club from that time as player, committee member and trustee and was diligently involved in the Kilmore training grounds development several decades later in 1995, which were a significant factor in the successes of our current seniors over the past 10 years.
During his time player Tommy was involved in the Offaly minor team of the late 1940s, where he spent 3 years before returning to Scotstown. During his time in Offaly he was inspired by the carnival in Clara to develop a carnival in Scotstown which became a huge success for the village during the 1960s and 1970s with some of the most renowned showbands of the time playing. Tommy also was an illustrious minor and senior county football player and played for the 1945 minor championship Ulster winning team, and also well known and highly regarded as a local publican. Both his on-field and off-field commitment, dedication and professionalism made a significant contribution to success and achievements of our club.
Predeceased by his wife Sheila and his son John. We would like to pass on our sincerest sympathy and deepest condolences to his daughter Fionnuala, sons Tom, Domhnall, Niall, Michael and David, grandchildren Caoimhe, Deirdre, Sean, Conor, Ciara, Kate, Tommy, Ruairi, Alex, Tristian, Domhnall, Tobias, and Marcus, son in law, John, daughters in law, Eilish, Anne Marie, Helle, Treacy, his extended family and wide circle of friends. May Tommy’s gentle soul Rest In Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Tommy will be resting at his home in Scotstown. Removal Thursday 15th, to St Mary's Church, Urbleshanny, Scotstown, arriving for 11:00am Funeral Mass, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Tommy's funeral Mass can be viewed via the facebook link https://www.facebook.com/Tydavnet-Parish-RC-Churches-110743170561975/

The Lord Mayor Campaign in the 1980s to fund the building of Sportlann Mhuire (the complex) and development of St. Marys Park and indeed, the ambitious purchase Of Kilmore in 1995 which has contributed to the outstanding success we achieve today.
Cairde na Botha is your opportunity to help your club continue this successful development for this generation and the next into the future. Fully paid up Members of Cairde Na Botha will have the benefit of their name engraved on the supporters’ wall at the Kilmore training grounds.

Health and Wellbeing
With the clock gone back an hour and the dark evenings and winter setting in, this is the time of year for the “Make your Céili” community initiative which combats loneliness and rural isolation. This has been a successful initiative aimed at encouraging people to visit a neighbour who may be lonely or suffering from rural isolation. So please over the next few months call in on people who may be suffering from loneliness, and please keep in mind the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic and take the necessary precautions. For those who are still nervous of physical visits given the ongoing Pandemic, we can still make contact with those we care about and / or are cocooning, living alone or vulnerable. They would really appreciate a phone call, letter or card just to say "I'm thinking about you, keep safe and stay strong." So please, Make a Ceili, Phone a Ceili, write a Letter, send a Card and keep in touch over the winter months and we are always here to help in anyway.
